The Suez Canal has been a source of wealth for Egypt for decades. This waterway, linking the Mediterranean with the Gulf of Aden, saved European seamen a lot of time and money on their trading voyages to Asia. Less than 80 kilometres south of the canal mouth and a 3 hours drive away from Cairo we have discovered a new source. Not a source of wealth and luxury, but a unique oasis for windsurfers and kiters.

Seldom has a spot made such a strong impression on us at first sight. Admittedly, the infrastructure on this part of the coast is still relatively undeveloped and one has to put up with a 2.5-hour transfer. But the windsurfing and kiting conditions that await you are unique, not only for novices and intermediates but also for expert freeriders and freestylers.

The vicinity to Cairo naturally offers a unique opportunity to combine one's windsurf vacation with a trip to the sights in and around the capital of Egypt. Depending on one's wishes, this programme can be limited to a day trip or can extend over several days. The Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum are the two most significant sights around Cairo that we would like to mention.

Ras Sudr is certainly no party town. It is the ultimate dream spot for those who wish to spend most of their time on the water and enjoy the quiet, both onshore and offshore. You can count on making tremendous progress here and will feel reborn after your return.

Kitesurfing at Ras Sudr.

Seldom has a kitesurfing spot made such a convincing impression on us right from the start as Ras Sudr in Egypt. Ras Sudr is an excellent venue offering ideal conditions for all skills of kitesurfers. The large sandy beach close to our kitesurfing centre provides nearly unlimited space for first exercises with the kite as for launching. The shallow water area stretching almost 100 metres and the sideshore wind will allow every kitesurfer to make extremely fast progress.

The kitesurfing centre is located directly on the beach of the Ramada Ras Sudr Hotel. The spacious building also houses our windsurfing center. The kitesurfing center has been equipped with the latest North Kiteboarding gear. The distance from the center to the water is only about 100 metres, but the best kitesurfing spot is located about 300 metres further windward. Here, the beach is even wider, and small lagoons form during low tide, offering ideal conditions for exercising kitesurfing.

Ras Sudr is an excellent spot for tuition

Ras Sudr offers ideal conditions for beginners and intermediate kitesurfers. There is a shallow water area, 30-150 cm deep (tide-dependent), extending more than 100 m into the sea.

The main wind direction is sideshore from the right and the wind is very steady. The average wind force is 4 to 6 bft, all year round, and there is often a light breeze in the mornings, creating ideal conditions for kitesurf novices.

Ras Sudr is a very safe Kitesurfing Spot

The spacious expanse of the spot ensures that kitesurfers and windsurfers will not get in each other's way because there are two different areas for each sport. The further windward you move, the more the beach expands. More advanced kitesurfers can sail a few hundred metres further on to a number of lagoons, which provide ideal conditions for practising, depending on the tide. You should only surf here in groups and inform the kitesurfing center in advance.

In the water there are no reefs, corals or shallows. Only beautiful and friendly dolphins swimming with you while you are sailing and cruising along in magnificent turquoise water.

The our kitesurfing centre offers a cosy chill-out corner, where kitesurfers can spend time relaxing after a session on the water. There is a compressor at the center for inflating kites and you will also receive assistance in setting up your kitesurfing gear. The center is fully equiped with all sizes of boards and kites.
