Magic in the Mediterranean

Tunisia is the northernmost country of the African continent. Here, a Mediterranean climate mixes with the dry and warm desert climate of the Sahara. Tunisia looks back on 3000 years of history: Under the Romans, Djerba was a trade center for caravans passing through the Sahara. In the times before the Spanish rule, vandals, Arabs and Normans fought for supremacy. In contrast to the endless width of the Tunisian Sahara, the north of the country offers lush green valleys and grasslands. Tunisia is famous for her breathtaking coastal views of the turquoise sea, charming villages with houses that hide their fine interior behind the “Moucharabia”, and ornate gates covered by hibiscus and bougainvillea. With 1.2 million palms, the island of Djerba is also called "Palm Island".

The Djerbans are extraordinarily hospitable and open-minded people with a keen sense of business; they still attach great importance to their customs and traditions. There is plenty to do in Houmt Souk, the capital of the island, which has about 25,000 inhabitants and numerous cafés, restaurants, souvenir shops and banks, and even a shopping centre.
You can enjoy a tasty evening meal with fish and seafood dishes in one of the many restaurants, whose recipes have a long culinary tradition.

The spot in Djerba

Everyone can have a great time kiting in Djerba. With a long, wide beach stretching away down wind, there is plenty of space to safely learn kitesurfing. We make good use of this area, as the first of your skills are learned on land. It doesn’t take long though, before you’re in the turquoise kiting zone in front of the hotel.
Depending on the tide it will be shallow up to 20 to 50m out, with a sandy bottom. The water is a perfect turquoise, and if you’re lucky you’ll even be joined by dolphins. For your safety, the boat is always ready.

The temperatures in spring and fall are perfectly comfortable around 22 –23 degree, and with a full wetsuit, winter isn’t out of the question either. If it does get a bit chilly for you, and your staying in the Mövenpick or Radisson you can take full advantage of the Spa area to warm up.

Wind and waves
Most of the time it’s constant cross-on from the right, but if the wind should swing onshore or the swell and shore break get too big we have an alternative teaching area in the next lagoon we can use for beginner lessons. If there isn’t enough wind we can even continue lessons on a mountain board on the large beach.
In winter the winds tend to pick up to 12 – 25 knots from the northeast regularly hitting the shore. A small groundswell then makes the spot appealing to more advanced sailors.

During the summer Djerba is particularly safe for kitesurfers as the wind tends to be less strong.

The center
Our center is to the left of the completely renovated and very impressive Radisson Hotel SAS Resort & Spa. The Mövenpick Hotel is also only three minutes further down the beach. The hotels are particularly suited to family kiting holidays as both have excellent kids clubs. The center has been generously designed with a lot of space, including changing rooms and hot showers.
