Wind, Merengue and Salsa Around the Clock

El Yaque, which used to be a small fishing village, is located on the Island of Margarita about 40 km off of the Venezuelan coast. Water sports addicts also refer to it as the "Pearl of the Caribbean". Fine sandy beaches, a Caribbean atmosphere and a constantly high wind level from November until May make El Yaque one of the top windsurfing and kiteboarding spots in the world.
The geographically advantageous location of Isla Margarita and an airstream generated between this island and the neighbouring island Coche are the reasons for the reliability and strength of the wind, thus making the spot very attractive. Add the great tropical thermal conditions to the picture and you will understand why all kiters and windsurfers you meet in El Yaque have a big grin on their faces, and why we are happy to welcome many regular guests every year!

If the wind gods are temporarily less well-disposed or you are longing for a change and want to explore more of the island, we can, of course, offer you a wide variety of alternative activities such as trekking tours through the jungle or shopping in Porlamar!

Windsurfers, kitesurfers, non-surfers – they all gather in the numerous beach bars after sunset to enjoy one of the delicious fruit cocktails served there and chat about the varied events of the day, exchange all the things they've been up to that day and share pleasurable expectations of the next day.

Our insider tips:

  • Restaurant Mediterraneo: in this Italian eatery in Porlamar, you can spend a pleasant evening with tasty food on the restaurant's own patio
  • Shopping in Margarita: "Mercado Conejero" is a market frequented by the locals; with restaurants where you can sample the island's typical arepas (soft corn tortillas with cheese, meat and other fillings)
  • At the "Centro Comercial Sambil", you can buy branded goods at discount prices – an opportunity that will conjure up a smile on every shopping enthusiast's face in tax haven Margarita
  • Los Roques: a trip to this island paradise, which is 150 km away, is an absolute 'must'; it is also known as Venezuela's Maldives.
  • Marine Museum on the peninsula
  • Wave riding in Playa Guacuco or Parguito: after a 40-minute trip, 1.5m high Atlantic waves await you at the beach
2-day trip to the Indians of the Orinoco Delta (comparable to the Amazonas)
  • We also offer horseriding, trekking and diving. Our guest relation service at the centre will take care of your questions.

The spot in El Yaque
El Yaque is a spot to suit every kitesurfer. El Yaque offers ideal and safe conditions for learning kiteboarding! You will find a huge choise of different kitesurfing spots. Whether you are beginner or expert kitesurfer, a holiday in El Yaque is definitely the right choice!

To ensure kitesurfers' and windsurfers' safety, the spot is divided into different zones. Advanced kitesurfers (level 3) can launch and land upwind of the windsurfing zone all day long. Here, you will also find a long sand bank, which we use for our initial kitesurfing instruction sessions. As soon as you can handle the kite safely and confidently, we take you to Pelican Beach, about 2,5 km upwind, by boat. There you can launch your kite comfortably from a sand bank and kite surf back to El Yaque, accompanied by our boat. On your return, our instructor will pick you up outside the dedicated windsurfing zone, and take you to the shore by boat.

Or if you are an independent kitesurfer you can take a taxi and kitesurf downwind back to El Yaque Beach.

Kitesurfers who have successfully completed a course, but still don't feel absolutely confident about kitesurfing upwind, can book on-the-water boat supervision on site. The boat accompanies you over the entire stretch from Pelican Beach and picks you up, if necessary!

Expert kitesurfers can use the entire zone at El Yaque beach from sunrise until 9:30 am and from 5:30 pm onwards! We offer day trips to Coche Island, with one of our instructors to accompany you. There is also a second kitesurfing center on the Island of Coche.

Wind and waves
There is probably no kite surfing spot in the world that has as many windy days per year as El Yaque. In the morning, the trade wind blows with a wind force of 3-5 and in the afternoon the thermal wind kicks in, intensifying the wind to a force of about 4-7 bft, ideal for kitesurfers of all skills. T he water is choppy due to the strong wind

The center
Our kitesurfing center in El Yaque is situated in the palm garden of the Jump 'n Jibe Hotel, in the middle of the bay. Kites can be dried in front of the center. Dry land tuition is also held in front of the center, in the shade, before you try out your luck on the water. The center is equipped with the latest gear from North Kiteboarding.
